Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate individual to take on the role of Clinical fellow in rape and sexual assault at the Bridge Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and Paediatric Centre of Excellence located in Bristol.

The Bridge SARC looks after children and young people who report sexual abuse or for whom professionals have concerns about sexual abuse in the geographical regions of Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. The Bridge also looks after adults in the context of suspected or reported rape and sexual assault in the area covered by the Avon & Somerset constabulary.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an innovative and dynamic doctor to join this service. This role is 0.6 wte, equivalent to 24 hours a week and has an on call out of hours commitment with supplementary banding

The post is available for 12 months.

The post may be suitable as OOPE/OOPT with the appropriate deanery permissions for trainees in an allied programme (such as gynaecology, sexual and reproductive health, emergency medicine) and the successful post holder will be supported to apply for these if applicable to them. The post is also available as a stand-alone role for doctors wishing to learn more about the field of forensic medicine who are passionate about trauma informed care for victims of sexual violence

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 4 years post graduate experience in relevant specialty e.g gynaecology. Obstetrics, general practice, Emergency medicine
  • Knowledge of and compliance with child and adult safeguarding procedures

Desirable

  • Experience in the management of people who have experienced maltreatment including child abuse, domestic abuse, honour based violence
  • Experience in the management of children, adults or young people who have been sexually assaulted
  • Experience in any of the following areas: Gynaecology, Genito-Urinary medicine Reproductive & Sexual Health/contraceptive provision, clinical Forensic Medicine, A&E, psychiatry, paediatrics, general practice
  • Previous involvement with Strategy discussions/ meetings, multi-agency discussions
  • Previous Court attendances as a professional witness

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Meets professional health requirements
  • Willingness to travel to and work at other sites necessitated by the role
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills

Desirable

  • Teaching skills course/ formal teaching qualification
  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching
  • Car plus license to drive
