Job summary

We are recruiting for an ARC National Communications Manager to join the National Institute for Health Research Applied Research Collaborations (NIHR ARCs) network.

Main duties of the job

  1. The primary role is to promote the work of NIHR ARCs to a wide range of targeted audiences, with responsibility for planning and implementing communications projects. The ARC National Communications Manager (ANCM) will work with the support and direction from the Head of Communications (HoC), with autonomy to prioritise workload and develop projects and campaigns.
  2. The postholder is responsible for developing and maintaining the ARCs' national communications strategy, which identifies target audiences and the channels to reach them.
  3. They will develop national campaigns, for example showcasing ARC impacts or the work ARCs do with Academic Health Science Networks.
  4. They will work with and support a range of colleagues across all 15 ARCs, including ARC communications leads, managers and directors, to develop and deliver high quality communications and demonstrate the value of this post, which all the ARCs contribute financially towards.
  5. They will work with NIHR's central communications team to ensure ARC content and messages are represented in NIHR's corporate communications.
  6. To enable cross-ARC communication, for example by managing JISCMAIL lists, helping plan ARC Comms Leads meetings and attending ARC Manager and Director meetings.

Some travel will be required to attend regional and national meetings. Some flexible working, outside of normal office hours may be required, to support events and other meetings.

  • Good IT skills and ability to analyse and interpret data
