Job summary

Thank you for your interest in the role of Consultant in Acute Medicine working in EAU.

Our Emergency Admissions Unit is one of our newest wards; it has 30 beds and primarily cares for medical patients.

Our priority is to treat patients in the right place, utilising our newly launched Frailty Assessment Unit and our highly successful Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit, to ensure we keep our acute inpatient beds for those who need inpatient care.

The Acute Medical team comprises Consultants and Associate Specialists who work to deliver the Acute service, and support the teams in the Emergency Department, Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit and the Emergency Admissions Unit .

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the Acute Medicine team is provide cutting edge, safe, high-quality care for acute unscheduled medical patients.

The successful candidate joins three full-time Consultant Acute Physicians and 2 part time Associate Specialists to create a team of five, working within the Emergency Admissions Unit, Emergency Department and AEC. There is currently a review of the Acute service to ensure the consultant staffing levels match the needs of the service.

It is an extremely exciting time to join Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation as we have established a highly successful Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit, supported by Advanced Nurse Practitioners. This is co-located with the Emergency Department and sees all ambulant patients referred to us by their GP as well as other patients.

The work of the team is integral to our successful achievement of the 4 hour ED wait performance which has been greater than 95% for the last two years.
