Band 3 HCA Cedar Centre Diabetes and Endocrinology

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to come and join us at Cedar we are a diabetes and Endocrinology unit based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.

Main duties of the job

We run diabetes and Endocrinology clinics in this busy department we are seeking someone who is looking for a new challenge, can work autonomously and show initiative. We are planning exciting new clinics, which the HCA team will be running independently around existing clinics. The ideal candidate will be organised time efficient and keen to learn new skills, central to the diabetes clinic will be downloading BG meters and pumps to provide up to the minute data. Taking routine observations is a requirement and phlebotomy skills would be a real bonus however if you do not take bloods a willingness to learn this skill is vital.

The post holder will support the HCA in providing clinic services. The post holder will be involved in developing and running new care processes clinics and downloading pump and CGMS data. There will be some administration duties in organising patient notes and assisting in the smooth running of the clinics.

2.1 JOB SUMMARY

The post holder will carry out observations take clinical measurements and record them accurately this would include taking blood, training can be provided.

New clinics will be developed and the post holder will be integral in setting up and running these care processes clinics in Diabetes. There will be a small amount of administration work to ensure notes are accurately updated. Integral to this administration will be ensuring pump and CGMS data is downloaded. The post holder will need to understand how the different clinics operate and in the absence of the clinic, HCA the post holder will ensure flow through clinic. The post holder will be supported by the clinic HCA and Senior DSN.

Nursing care will require excellent communication and engagement skills.

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology & patient confidentiality
  • Ability to express an understanding of the key principles of infection control
