Band 4 - 1 year Fixed-Term Full time role

The NIHR Clinical Research Network Kent, Surrey and Sussex (CRN KSS) is hosted by Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.

CRN KSS are recruiting Band 4 Junior Practitioner to extend their team to support research across the whole of Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Previous research delivery experience is not essential. Full training and ongoing supervision is provided.

As part of a new, exciting and innovative plan to transform the support for health-related research across the region, CRN KSS is recruiting multiple Band 4 research Practitioners to their delivery team.

The team (research nurses, practitioners & AHPs) will support NHS partners, as well as extend CRN KSS services to deliver research in non-NHS or out of hospital settings, including within primary care.

Although the positions will have different demographics and will be supporting different organisations (e.g NHS, General Practices, Hospices and Care Homes, community, pharmacies, local authorities, schools, refugees etc.) the emphasises will be one team, one workforce, that will deliver high quality and new types of research across the whole of Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated health research professionals who will be key members of the CRN KSS Study Support Service team, supporting and delivering NIHR Portfolio research projects in NHS and out-of-hospital / non-NHS settings. We welcome applications from candidates with experience of delivering health-related research and/or of systems and processes in NHS and non-NHS settings.

The posts flexibility as the team will work and travel around their respective counties, engaging with staff and participants in out-of-hospital and community settings to undertake the delivery of research. They will also work to engage new sites, and identify research teams that would benefit from CRN KSS support. The roles offer exciting opportunities for individuals, who want to build on their existing experience, further develop their career and contribute to the development of this exciting new project to help shape the landscape for health-related research in out-of-hospital settings.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is funded through the Department of Health to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. Kent, Surrey & Sussex (KSS) is one of 15 local Clinical Research Networks in the NIHR Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN).

This post is within the KSS-CRN Research Delivery Team (RDT) which aims to offer a flexible, responsive workforce for out of hospital setting. The Junior Research Practitioner (JRP) will work within the research delivery team supporting out of hospital research and have the knowledge and skills to work at a high level of competence within agreed protocols and with clearly defined lines of accountability for delegated work The post holder will be an employee of Royal Surrey County Hospital who host KSS-CRN. This post is based at Sussex.

To provide assistance to Research Nurses, Practitioners & Allied Healthcare Professionals to promote and support research within CRN KSS non NHS settings. The post-holder will, with support from colleagues from the research delivery teams, support and facilitate research activities across KSS as required.

To provide assistance to the research teams in planning, delivering and evaluation, within protocol defined requirements.

The JRP will carry out all interventions to a high standard and competency under the supervision of more experienced members of the team. Support the patient/client, family and multidisciplinary team in ensuring there is a safe working environment.

The Post will be suitable for an experienced health care assistant with an active interest in extending their scope of practice with a focus on research.
