Job summary
The Royal Surrey County Hospital is a leading district
general hospital serving a population of 320,000 with a regional cancer service
covering a population of 1.2 million. The

over 200,000 outpatient appointments per year and around 3,200 deliveries per
year.

The Paediatric Department is looking to appoint a part time Specialty Doctor to
work within the Multidisciplinary Child Development Team at the Royal Surrey
County Hospital particularly to support the assessment of children with social
communication difficulties. The job is a part time post comprising 7.5
Programmed Activities (PAs). There is no on-call requirement for this
post. Due to the nature of the role
working closely with schools, the department would consider flexible working
options which would meet both the needs of the service and enable a positive
work/life balance for the successful applicant.
Main duties of the job
Undertake assessment and provide
ongoing management for children with developmental concerns within the
multidisciplinary team. This includes assessment of children with possible
autism spectrum disorder (in conjunction with our speech and language therapist
and clinical psychologist) and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
Inform parents of appropriate
support and sources of information. Refer children on to services as
appropriate.
Produce medical reports for
parents and professionals after all consultations.
Liaise with the
multi-professional team (to include therapists, SEND support service, Surrey
early support, nursery and school staff, local authority staff, childrens
social care) and participate in Team Around the Child meetings if required
which may be off site.
Participate in weekly lunchtime
Child Development Centre Team meetings
Participate in facilitation of
our evening Parents Group for parents of children who have a new diagnosis of
Autism Spectrum Disorder which runs over 6 sessions on a twice yearly basis.
Provide reports for Social
Services and Education when needed including Medical Advice to contribute to
Education, Health and Care Plans for children.
Attend nursery / school reviews
and other multi-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings when appropriate.

- MRCPCH (theory) or Diploma of Child Health
- Level 3 Child Safeguarding training

- Management Skills and leadership skills - Must be able to prioritise own work effectively and be able to direct activities of others. Experience of managing and motivating a team and reviewing performance of the individuals.
- Audit skills with examples of completed Audit cycle
