The Royal Surrey is seeking to appoint a Head of Service for Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care to lead these services within the Trusts Surgical Division. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced operational manager that will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of high-quality patient centred services. They will provide strategic planning, service development and driving innovation, modernisation and high levels of staff and patient satisfaction.
This is an exciting time to join the Surgical Division within the Royal Surrey: we provide a large range of surgical services to our local population, as well as delivering extensive regional cancer services. We have one of the largest multi-disciplinary surgical robotic programmes nationally in conjunction with a high quality critical care service.
Within the next year we will complete the building of the Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre at our Guildford site (the Royal Surrey Hospital), which will provide six new operating theatres and well as brand new recovery and admission areas. The role will be responsible for leading and engaging operational and clinical teams in the programme, operational mobilisation of the project and delivering patient pathways to ensure effective patient flow across the new Surgical Cancer and Innovation Centre and existing main theatre environment.
Main duties of the job
The Head of Service is responsible for operational management of Theatres and Anaesthetics & Critical Care Specialist Business Units within the Surgical Division. This post is accountable to the Associate Director of Operations for the Surgical Division, to ensure that the division delivers on Trust key performance objectives for elective and non-elective care.
This role is responsible for providing operational leadership to a large portfolio of services within the Division at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.
This role carries responsibility for:
o Main Theatres, Day Surgery Unit, Surgical Short Stay Unit & the Elective Surgical Unit.o Anaestheticso Pre-operative Assessmento Critical Careo Pain Serviceso Sterile Services (Contract performance with external provider)o Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (MATTU)
The post will provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure services continue to improve and develop. The role is responsible for the leadership, coordination and operational management of these services alongside the Matron, Clinical Director and Operational/Administrative lead for each specialty, to ensure implementation of strategic issues and performance targets are met within their services. The role also requires the post holder to monitor and manage performance to ensure that patient-centered services are of a consistently high standard.

The post holder they will deputise for the Associate Director of Operations for Surgery and provide cross cover to the Head of Service for Surgery as required.

- Master's degree in healthcare or management or demonstrable ability to work at Masters level
- Degree and/or equivalent senior management experience
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Project Management qualification or equivalent training /experience
Knowledge

- A minimum of three years proven track record of significant successful operational management experience within an acute Trust in the NHS, or equivalent.
- Proven track record managing NHS teams and services at a senior level preferably within an Acute Trust (though not essential)
