Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Max Facs clinic co-ordinator and cancer navigator with excellent interpersonal skills and a calm and methodical approach to provide a full range of administrative assistance to the Maxillofacial department. This is a permanent full-time contract working 37.5 hours per week.

The role will include a full range of administrative duties to support consultants and their team. We are looking for someone that can manage their own workload, demonstrate efficient organisation skills and who can work collaboratively within the team.

Main duties of the job

The Navigator will ensure that Cancer pathways are coordinated efficiently and effectively, patient pathways are actively tracked to meet cancer waiting time standards, supporting the production of evidence and data for National Peer Review, Trust finances and medical publication. The post-holder will also deliver wide-ranging support to the management to ensure the effective running of clinics. The post holder will be the initial contact for patients coming to the department and visitors to the Royal Surrey County Hospital and therefore, be responsible for providing a welcoming, professional and courteous environment.

The post holder will need to ensure services are suitably staffed and supported across all areas such as reception, medical staffing and clinic utilisation. This role will also include liaising with a variety of staff across the Trust to ensure the smooth running of the clinics for the patients, clinicians and related support departments.

When receiving Suspected Cancer referrals, will quickly establish a professional rapport with patients to ensure patients are aware of the timeframes to which they should expect and make themselves available to receive investigations and treatment. Will be a key part in making sure the organisation meets all access and performance targets associated with patients on a cancer pathway.

Ensure investigation reports are available for clinicians at Suspected Cancer appointments and at any subsequent follow up.

On receipt of each external referral, obtain patient letters, demographics, reports from radiology and pathology in a timely manner.

Work closely with the admissions coordinators to establish appropriate dates for diagnostic and treatment procedures.

Liaise with the MDT coordinators/Clinical Nurse Specialists/Clinicians for patient outcomes.

Organise radiology or pathology review via the MDT as required.

Escalate pathology delays that could extend a patients pathway.

Ensure Clinicians, Nurse Specialists and MDT co-ordinators have relevant information to enable discussion at weekly MDT meetings.

Send out any relevant trust leaflets and introduction packs where appropriate.
