Job summary

To work as part of the Multi-professional team providing a high standard of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal midwifery care to women and their families within the integrated maternity service. To work as part of a continuity of carer team or rotate within all clinical areas within maternity services to support professional development and maintain safe standards of midwifery care in line with service provision.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. This midwife is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care and is designated to take charge regularly of a ward area or an equivalent sphere within midwifery in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility. The post-holder will be required to work in both the community and the hospital across a 7 day service including night duties. The post-holder is expected to supervise junior staff and to be able to teach qualified and unqualified staff, including basic and/or post-basic students.

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an enthusiastic, band 6 Midwife to join the Call a Midwife Advice Line team, based at South East Coast Ambulance HQ in Crawley

Call a Midwife is a designated telephone advice and triage line available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week providing advice and guidance to pregnant and postnatal women under the care of Royal Surrey, Ashford and St Peters and Epsom Hospitals.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a small team directing women to the most appropriate place of care and provide midwifery advice for 999 operators and other health professionals.

This can be a dedicated Call a Midwife position or if preferable hours can be split between the Advice Line and clinical care within the Royal Surrey Maternity Unit.
