The Royal Surrey is one of the few hospitals in the country to be rated 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and we are excited to invite applications to join our new Acute Medical Department! Our brand new same day emergency care (SDEC) unit opened alongside a revamped Acute Medical Unit and we are now looking to expand our consultant workforce to develop the service further!
Successful candidates will join a growing team looking to transform our existing offering into a national, best-in-class model for collaborative care. We are adopting a one-floor approach with the emergency department, SDEC and community services to ensure that we deliver timely care. The focus is to avoid unnecessary admission, reduce duplication and ensure that the sickest patients are prioritised.

Areas particularly encouraged are same day emergency and enhanced level and remote care, ultrasound Imaging and echocardiography, education, research and development and quality Improvement. We support part-time and flexible working patterns and are embedding self-rostering to maximize autonomy and well-being.
Main duties of the job
The acute physician(s) will be responsible for providing consultant cover for the medical patients on AMU, SDEC and the emergency department. The key duties and responsibilities of the post will be:
Clinical and administrative responsibility for patients in AMU & SDEC.
Early and appropriate clinical decision making for emergency admissions
Supervision of medical admissions through the acute medical unit and Guildford ward
Promoting flow through from the Emergency Department.
Recruitment, supervision and training of junior medical staff and allied health professionals working in the units.
Ensuring that resuscitation and end of life care issues are appropriately and sensitively managed.
Development of ambulatory pathways.
Delivery of clinical audits and quality improvement relevant to the needs of the department.
Recruitment and active involvement with clinical trials in both units.
Participate on the GIM on call rota.
