Job summary
You will be leading the Histology team at Guildford providing managerial and professional guidance to the Histopathology service for the Surrey section of BSPS.
The department is currently undergoing major changes in order to meet the new National FDS for histology. The successful candidate will be taken a lead role in the current roll out of the of the new Roche Navify tracking system and FujiFilm digital pathology system and well as leading on the major changes the department is currently undergoing major changes in order to meet the new National FDS for histology.
The Surrey hub, based just off the A3 in Guildford, has recently undergone a £1M refurbishment and provides a modern and spacious laboratory space with the latest Roche H&E, special staining and IHC equipment installed. Full UKAS accreditation has been achieved and maintained for some years. The Surrey Histology side employs over 20 Pathologists, 30 Biomedical Scientists, 9 Associate Practitioners and 20 support grade staff on a Monday to Friday working pattern. The laboratory supports St Luke's Cancer Centre, a regional centre providing complex cancer surgery and radiotherapy and performs over 400 frozen sections per annum. There is an expansive Immunohistochemistry service, supported by Roche Diagnostics Ultra platforms, encompassing over 140 antibodies, skin immunofluorescence and in-situ hybridisation with a projected 95,000 tests per year as well an OSNA service.
Main duties of the job
The post will be largely based at the RSH in Guildford but with the expectation of regular visits to the satellite sites at St Peter's Hospital, East Surrey Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital as well as working closely with the Berkshire Deputy General Manager, based at the Berkshire hub based Reading University and covering the Royal Berkshire Trust and the satellite site at Wexham Park Hospital.
There will be an expectation to participate in the BSPS Senior out of hours rota for Cellular Pathology covering Histology and well as the Cytology and Mortuary services
Base - Surrey Histology Hub in Guildford (with travel to other sites across the BSPS network)

The purpose of the Deputy General Manager is to provide leadership for the Surrey Cellular laboratory Services. The post holder is responsible for the implementation of divisional strategy and delivery of key business goals, objectives as well as the provision of patient services that are of the highest quality and which represent value for money.
To direct and manage the organisation and performance of all aspects of the Cellular Pathology services delivered across Surrey sites. To support and develop a culture of collaborative flexible cross team working and commitment to delivering high quality services and outcomes.
