Job summary

To perform service and maintenance activities on a wide range of Medical devices for our third party stakeholders. This includes local community Hospitals, Health Centres, Doctors practices, Acute NHS Trusts and Private Hospitals.

Reporting to the Deputy EME Manager, the EME field service Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of maintenance including annual servicing, emergency call-out, and minor repairs. This position will be required to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with customers and internal colleagues.

The role calls for someone from an Electronics / Instrumentation Engineering background, and as such the post holder will require knowledge across the range of technologies and services that fall under the responsibility of this post.

The role will frequently require the post holder to engage with infrastructure and business projects and the adoption of new technologies in line with business requirements.

1. JOB PURPOSE

Maintain Medical Devices & Systems to the highest levels of performance, quality and integrity aligned to HPL requirements

Act as point of contact for all EME related community work.

Responsibility for delivery of the EME service provision to third party stakeholders

2. JOB SUMMARY

3. KEY RESULT AREAS/MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Proactive monitoring to ensure maximum uptime, reporting any downtime in a timely manner to the Head of Medical Engineering

Engagement with third-party vendors, including participation in service reviews, billing review, and escalation of issues where appropriate

  • Liaison with third-parties in the ongoing maintenance of a range of Medical Devices.
  • The post holder must have a full understanding and knowledge of medical devices normally used in a hospital environment
  • The post holder will be expected to participate and contribute to monthly EME meetings

Work with other teams to improve service delivery to the end user through a collaborative and structured approach to problem resolution

Involved in the ongoing development and documentation of processes and procedures in line with the trusts corporate policy, objectives and goals

  • Identify and escalate perceived risks to Head of Engineering where appropriate, managing and alleviating risk and where possible resolving the risk
  • The post holder will be expected to be working in less than desirable working conditions i.e.: dirty and soiled equipment.
  • The post holder must be able to move and carry equipment in excess of 20Kg
  • The post holder will be responsible for own day to day work load and travel to other sites covered by the department is expected as part of the role. The ability to drive is expected as part of this role.
  • The post holder must keep accurate records and update any work carried out by the post holder
  • Security role controlling both local resource and access rights
  • Documentation of processes for use across EME departments by both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Provide guidance and technical training to junior members of the EME team.

Technical Capability

In depth knowledge of BS62353 (2008): Medical electrical equipment - Recurrent test and test after repair of medical electrical equipment.

Management To take responsibility as a Medical Device functional expert, providing leadership, recognising and developing the team, mentoring, coaching and training them to utilise their strengths to enhance the departments performance and build organisational capability.

To be responsible for the self-development of skills and competencies through participation in learning and development activities, and to maintain up to date technical and professional knowledge relevant to the post.

Develop understanding on specific emerging technologies and good practices and then facilitate and develop this knowledge across the EME team.

  • Experience of monitoring service providers, and able to negotiate and manage contracts to deliver best value for the trust
  • Experience of use of Microsoft Office applications e.g. Word, excel, outlook etc
  • Experience of working in the patient environment

  • Significant experience holding technical roles, preferably in NHS hospital environments
