Job summary

JOB SUMMARY

  • Support the Rheumatology Consultant workforce by promoting the supply of medicines via the most cost clinically appropriate and cost effective route and in the setting outside of hospital (promote drug administration route IV to SC and biosimilar switches)
  • Responsible for leading, developing and evaluating the delivery of clinical pharmacy services for designated Medicine Speciality Business units.
  • Manage the clinical pharmacy service provided to the named Medical SBUs provided by a team of pharmacists.
  • Post holder may be required to provide cover for the clinical pharmacy provision (and supervision) to other wards when the service requires (Relevant to experience).
  • To provide specialist in-house teaching, relating to the specialty, to Trust staff and to rotational pharmacists undertaking the Diploma in pharmacy practice.
  • Responsible for reviewing and writing procedures and policies relating to the relevant SBU/CSS having an impact on staff within pharmacy and the wider trust.
  • Post holder is required to tutor a pharmacist undertaking the Diploma in pharmacy practice.
  • Post holder may be required to tutor a trainee pharmacist as the need arises.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE

  • To work in partnership with the Chief Pharmacist and all other pharmacists to ensure safe, effective, economical and timely pharmaceutical care for all patients receiving a pharmaceutical service from the department.
  • To lead, provide, develop and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to meet the needs of the relevant speciality business units (SBU) in accordance with objectives set by the Deputy Chief Pharmacist in order to meet Trust objectives and the Clinical Governance Agenda.
  • To lead by example within the speciality to ensure a consistently high quality clinical pharmacy service is delivered to all clinical areas of the relevant SBU in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • To plan and implement under the direction of the Deputy Chief Pharmacist the strategic direction of the clinical pharmacy service provided to the Trust and lead on delivery within the relevant medical SBU(s).
  • To be a resource for the whole department and the Trust in your specialist clinical pharmacy area.
  • Dispense and supply medicines and provide medicines advice.
  • Provide relevant teaching/training/educational sessions under the direction (not supervision) of the Deputy Chief Pharmacist.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated and forward thinking Lead Pharmacist to deliver and lead on developing pharmacy services within Rheumatology at RSCH.

The successful post holder will be working directly with our Rheumatology Consultants and nurse specialists and will be an integral part of our Rheumatology Multidisciplinary Team. The role involves participating in outpatient clinics and having an active role as an independent prescriber; conducting patient assessments and taking responsibility for the prescribing of DMARDs, biologics and specialist medicines.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills and to directly deliver enhanced level patient centred-care. Participating in research and teaching are other keys aspects of the role.

Although this role provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinical pharmacist to develop further as an Advanced level practitioner, however we welcome applications from pharmacists with varied Rheumatology experience.

Essential

  • Masters degree in pharmacy or equivalent and 1 year pre-registration training
  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (Great Britain) as attained following successful completion of 1 year competency assessment and examination.
  • Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent- or near completion
  • Registered supplementary/independent non-medical prescriber

Desirable

  • MSc in clinical pharmacy

Knowledge

Essential

  • Professional knowledge acquired through vocational Masters degree in pharmacy (4 years) or equivalent
  • Advanced level core therapeutic knowledge and clinical skills as gained through Post-graduate clinical diploma (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrates high level of clinical knowledge, clinical reasoning and judgement; manages difficult and ambiguous problems
  • Understanding of background and aims of national and local healthcare policy/guidance and appreciate the implications of this on engagement and priorities
  • Specialist clinical knowledge and skills relevant to the area of practice as developed through experience and CPD including conferences, courses etc.
