Job summary
We are looking to appoint to two posts, one developed for
service growth in both the inpatient and outpatient service, and the other to
replace a retiring colleague.
Both are substantive full time posts (10PAs) for a
Respiratory Consultant and General Physician based at the Royal Surrey Hospital
site. Successful recruitment to both posts will increase the total number of
respiratory consultants to 6.
The posts are advertised as full time; however we are very
welcoming of applicants wishing to work less than full time. The hospital and
department are incredibly family friendly and are open to discussions about
flexible working.
The appointed applicant will work within the existing
multidisciplinary team, and will be encouraged to develop a sub specialist
interest. The department is very supportive of this, and will additionally
support applicants looking to develop in areas outside of direct clinical care.
Candidates with an interest in research, and / or medical
education would be welcomed. Equally, candidates with an interest in medical
leadership, and in service development / reconfiguration would be especially
welcomed.
Candidates must have full GMC registration with a license to practice, and be on the GMC specialist register orproposed CCT date must be within 6 months of
interview.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as a key member of the Respiratory and general medical teams in the hospital.
Both posts are responsible for providing the full breadth of respiratory (inpatient, outpatient, specialty referral and diagnostic) duties, in addition to participation on the general medicine on-call rota.
Key Activities
- Undertake outpatient clinics (both general and sub-specialist);
- Undertake ward rounds on the respiratory inpatients and supervise the junior staff on the wards;
- Undertake procedures - bronchoscopy/EBUS/pleural
- In-reach into the Acute Medical Unit
- Perform work in General Internal Medicine on the wards, with weekday cover, post take ward rounds and weekend cover approximately 1:9.
- Attend multidisciplinary team meetings;
- Work with the Integrated Respiratory Service;
- Contribute to education and training of other staff;
- Contribute to the respiratory service development, meeting the needs of our patients and the strategic aims of the Trust.
