Job summary
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Locum Consultant Radiologist specialising in Cross Sectional Imaging .This post is a fixed term contract until the end of June to cover maternity leave.
You will be joining our friendly supportive team of 22 Consultants, 3 Registrars, 81 radiographers, 22 nursing and assistant staff and 23 administrators.
Our Diagnostic Strategy includes expanding our services and resources of both staff and equipment within this hospital and in the community, which will in turn support career progression of our staff.
There has been substantial investment in radiology and in the last 6 months, our capital projects have included a fantastic new MRI suite with the latest patient experience environment and incorporating 2 Philips MRI scanners, a 1.5T and a 3T both with Acquisition Acceleration Technology.
We have redesigned our interventional suite and installed the latest Siemens IR unit. As part of the Surrey and Sussex Consortium, we have transitioned to Sectra PACS.
We have refurbished and expanded our Radiology department at Milford Community Hospital to include both DR plain film and ultrasound facilities. Community based MRI and CT on this site are due to complete in 2024.
Main duties of the job
We are expanding to meet the rapid increase in demand for cross-sectional imaging and particularly to support the work of our cancer centre. This is a really fantastic opportunity to join a highly skilled, hard-working team. We will work together to build exciting, interesting and sustainable roles around existing sub-specialty expertise, integrating into the appropriate MDTs. We are seeking candidates with previous experience in the reporting of cancer imaging, and the support of oncology MDTs and research.

Clinical
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in general radiology, in particular MRI, CT and Ultrasound for cancer and potential cancer.
- Provision of radiological reports and investigations as required by the clinical director. This will include plain film reporting and general radiology.
- To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave, including MDT cover.
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.
- In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.
- To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
- You may be required to provide Radiological cover at other sites, currently including Haslemere, Cranleigh and Milford.
- Works in accordance with Ionising Radiations (Medical Equipment) Regulations 2000 observing Radiation Standard Operating Procedures, Trust policies, Departmental Protocols and Local Rules.
Junior Medical Staff
- In conjunction with colleagues, to play a full part in the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
- In conjunction with colleagues, to take responsibility for and devote time to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required for junior medical staff.
Management and Service Development
- In conjunction with management and clinical colleagues, to take an active role in the management of the Business Unit.
- In conjunction with management and clinical colleagues, to play a full part in developing & implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles and fit for the future.
- In conjunction with clinical colleagues to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency.
