Job summary

This is a fixed-term, 10PA post for a Clinical Locum Consultant Oncologist with a specialist interest in Colorectal and Gynaecological Tumours. The post is based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, as well as East Surrey Hospital.

The remit of the consultant post is to work with colleagues to provide a Colorectal and Gynaecological oncology service. The post holder will provide the oncology service for the patients in the catchment of our outreach partner- East Surrey Hospital (ESH) and the role will offer Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy expertise for these patients.

This remit for the post will require a well-organised individual with good team-working skills and the ability to complete work within agreed timescales in co-operation with all staff groups and with support from senior colleagues.

This is likely to become a substantive post in the near future.

Main duties of the job

To provide Oncology expertise in the management and treatment of patients with Colorectal and Gynaecological Tumours,

To be part of the MDT and clinical team

To be part of the radiotherapy MDT and clinical team

To play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for Oncology

To provide cover for fellow Consultant colleagues in respect of periods of leave and organise leave in conjunction of Consultant colleagues according to Oncology department policy.

To take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

To provide expertise for patients, participate in the local MDTs and training programmes

To participate in clinical trials as appropriate, in co-operation with the Alliance Research Lead

To ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

To participate in CME and audit projects as appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Recent experience of Oncology care
  • Relevant experience of management of Oncological emergencies

Desirable

  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register Clinical Oncology via CCT (CCT date within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights
  • Teaching/Education Qualification
  • Ability to plan SABR treatments independently
  • Experienced in HDR practice - holds Arsac license to practice
