The Oncology division is looking for a forward thinking
Clinical or Medical Oncology consultant to join the Royal Surrey to provide breast
and melamona expertise to the Oncology division.
This
is a 10PA post based at the Royal Surrey Hospital, with
clinical commitments at our outreach
partner Ashford and St Peters
Hospital. The post holder will provide an Oncology breast service for the patients in
the Ashford and St Peters catchment area, plus Guildford. The successful candidate will also provide
expertise in Melanoma for the Oncology patients within our region.
This role will offer Chemotherapy, plus Radiotherapy expertise
(if Clinical Oncologist) for these patients.
This post is a great opportunity for anyone

The Royal Surrey Hospital Foundation Trust
provides specialist Cancer and Haemato-Oncological care, including complex
Cancer surgery, to the population of the South West Surrey and Hampshire, a
catchment area of approximately 1.4 million. Non-surgical oncological treatment
for these patients is provided at the St. Lukes Cancer Centre, which is an
integral part of the Trust. There are close links with surrounding cancer units
and the Surrey Clinical Research Centre.

Main duties of the job
To
act in a senior capacity for ward patients, providing senior oversight and
decision-making on patient care, whilst working closely with the Oncologists.
Assume
a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than
full-time and ensure that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off
duty periods.
Promote
high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through
direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional
development.
Exercise
the freedom to develop specialist elements of the services to reflect
perceived priorities within available resources.
Teaching
and education of junior medical and other staff
To
maintain statutory and mandatory training as per Trust guidance

ensure adequate CPD is maintained appropriate for appraisal and revalidation

post-holder is expected to work productively for 42 weeks a year and will be
required to undertake annual appraisal, revalidation and job planning within
their allocated contractual SPA time (1.5 SPA per week). Any SPA activity
over 1.0 will be in line with the trust SPA tariff and will be reviewed as
part of the annual job planning process.
The
job plan will be based on the new Consultant Contract and job planning
process. It is expected to be a basic 10 programmed activities (40 hours)
contract comprising 8.5 direct clinical care sessions and 1.5 supporting
programmed activities. However, this will be a flexible job-plan pending
further development of the role.
Travel
time will be factored into clinic templates and job plans when travelling
between sites.
