Job summary

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Neurologist based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a colleague with broad Neurology expertise to join a department of two other Consultants. The successful candidate will join two colleagues within the Neurology department who are supported by a specialist nursing team.

The successful candidate will have CCT or equivalent and be on the Specialist Register for Neurology medicine when they take up the post (applications are welcome from those within six months of their CCT date).

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is a medium-sized district general hospital, with an integral cancer centre (St. Lukes Cancer Centre). It serves a population of 320,000 for emergency and general services, and 1.2 million people for cancer services. Currently, the Neurology department consists of 3 Consultant Neurologists, a Consultant Neurophysiologist, and associated support personnel.

We are seeking an ambitious individual to help to develop/lead Neurological services within the general hospital and the cancer centre, and to further develop the academic partnership with the adjacent University of Surrey. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the generic Neurology service, and to develop a relevant subspecialty interest.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a comprehensive acute and outpatient Neurology Service.

To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
