Job summary
The Deputy Director of Medical Education - South will work closely with the Deputy Director of Medical Education - North to develop and deliver an excellent Psychiatry training programmefor all resident doctors within Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to a consistent level throughout the county.
Policy and Service Development- Assist the DME with policy development relating to the full spectrum of medical education.
- Take the lead on policy development relating to the medical education and training of resident doctors in psychiatry, core trainee to higher trainee level.
- Help the DME in producing an annual financial and business plan relevant to the education and training of psychiatry trainees.
- Contribute to educational governance, quality improvement and to the annual report prepared by the DME.
- Provide evidence of robust systems for educational governance for psychiatry trainees as required by the GMC, Royal Colleges and other external bodies as required.
- To lead on and organise the annual NHS England educational review for the South.
Main duties of the job

- To develop and deliver an excellent Psychiatry training programme for all postgraduate trainees in Derbyshire, including a weekly teaching and experiential learning programme specifically for all the postgraduate mental health trainees placed in the South in DHCFT.
- Organising and delivering an effective and fit for purpose Induction programme in the South for all cohorts (including GP, FY, Core Psychiatric trainees and Higher trainees) of resident doctors.
- Participate in recruitment of psychiatry trainees and locum resident doctors for service.
- Support HR Manager to address any concerns of resident doctor rota compliance with the European Working Time Directive.
- Contribute to review of local policies and guidelines.
- Supporting and dealing with trainees in difficulty.
- Ensure provision and compliance with educational governance.
- Participate in the allocation and distribution of educational supervisors.
- Provide educational leadership to trainee supervisors.
- Attend committee meetings relating to training.
To deliver excellent training, including the weekly teaching and induction.
