Job responsibilities

Take a lead in the following areas:

• • To develop and deliver an excellent Psychiatry training programme for all postgraduate trainees in Derbyshire, including a weekly teaching and experiential learning programme specifically for all the postgraduate mental health trainees placed in the South in DHCFT.
  • Organising and delivering an effective and fit for purpose Induction programme in the South for all cohorts (including GP, FY, Core Psychiatric trainees and Higher trainees) of resident doctors.
  • Develop and deliver physical health training in mental health curriculum for all levels of trainees placed in the Trust.
  • Participate in recruitment of psychiatry trainees and locum resident doctors for service.
  • Develop key strategic links with the East Midlands training programmes. To lead on and engage with the Training Programme Directors (TPDs) and support the TPDs in the fair allocation of trainees to Derbyshire.
  • Support HR Manager to address any concerns of resident doctor rota compliance with the European Working Time Directive.
  • Contribute to review of local policies and guidelines.
  • Supporting and dealing with trainees in difficulty.
  • Ensure provision and compliance with educational governance.
  • Participate in the allocation and distribution of educational supervisors.
  • Provide educational leadership to trainee supervisors.
  • Attend committee meetings relating to training.
  • Chair the educational peer support group.

To meet on a monthly basis with all the resident doctors in the South of the trust together with HR, admin and other tutors.

To deliver excellent training, including the weekly teaching and induction.

To continuously and proactively create opportunities for innovative teaching and educational interventions.

To quality control and coordinate the educational supervision for core, higher, foundation and GP trainees.

To use the feedback loop from trainers and trainees to continue to develop the placements in Derbyshire.

To prepare annual reports to NHS England, GMC exit reports and triangulating DATIX feedback.

To participate in performance management when required.

To contribute to an annual report for the trust board to be prepared by the DME.

To assist the DME in quality improvement of local educational policies & guidelines.

To deputise for the DME as required.

Development and Training

The postholder would be expected to:

Attend relevant training and national meetings relating to the development of medical (psychiatric) education.

Attend training relevant to generic medical management and leadership.

Participate in educational annual appraisal.

The post-holder will have access to support from educational administration, to IT and library resources.

The post holder will become a member of a highly motivated peer group of educators for support and supervision.

Qualifications

Essential

• Holding a substantive consultant psychiatrist post in Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
• Medically qualified

Skills

Essential

• Analytical and judgement skills to deal with complex information and situations
• Ability to develop and implement plans which will have an impact trust-wide
• Ability to work in partnership with all internal and external stakeholders

Knowledge / Experience

Essential

• Understanding of the key principles of national and regional drivers influencing recruitment and training
• Understanding the curriculum needs for all resident doctors fit to be the future medical workforce
• Understanding of the (contractual) relationship between NHS England and the trust
