Job summary

The Substance and Alcohol Misuse Service at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (DHCFT) is passionate about reducing the harm to patients caused by Alcohol Related Liver Disease. DHCFT is the lead partner within the Derbyshire Recovery Partnership (DRP).

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Fibroscan Technician to help pioneer the delivery of health improvement interventions with people whose liver health may be compromised.

The newly-created Fibroscan Technician role is an integral part of the Derbyshire strategy to reduce harm from Alcohol Related Liver Disease for patients both currently open to the service, and to people in the wider community where there may be concerns about liver health.

The post holder will be responsible for undertaking Fibroscans in a variety of clinical and community settings. Fibroscans will be undertaken at DHCFT bases across Chesterfield, North-East Derbyshire, Bolsover and High Peak and Dales Districts with patients who are in treatment for alcohol or substance use, alongside DRP colleagues.

  • The primary role is to undertake Fibroscans and provide effective harm reduction and healthy lifestyle advice to service users in treatment for alcohol or substance use.
  • The secondary role us to undertake Fibroscans at community engagement events to assist in lowering the wider levels of Alcohol Related Liver Disease harm in Derbyshire.
  • Other duties will include assisting with the broader interventions of DRP: keywork, prescribing and health interventions.
  • To provide simple practical advice to drug/alcohol users, parent/carers or anyone affected by an individual's substance misuse and refer on to appropriate support services as necessary.

  • To participate in an annual appraisal process in line with Trust policy.
  • To undertake any training/development required to enhance the role or to meet the requirements of the service, identified within the appraisal.

To always work within DHCFT policies and procedures and report any issues relating to compliance to the Service Manager.

  • To assist in the planning, organisation and delivery of training events.
  • To deliver harm reduction information and advice to drug and alcohol users at all stages of their treatment journey. This includes delivering a needle and syringe exchange programme.
  • To respond in a flexible manner if changes in working hours or locations are required by service demands.
  • To help foster and maintain a culture of hope and optimism.
  • To undertake other tasks as required where commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post.
  • To carry out other appropriate tasks, and to work flexibly as may be required in accordance with the needs of the service, and service users.
