Job summary
The role of the Homelessness and Accommodation Worker is to support individuals into emergency accommodation, suitable accommodation, temporary or supported accommodation by using a therapeutic, flexible person-centred approach. The role of the Homelessness and Accommodation Worker begins with a referral from the wards, or CRHT, when they have identified a patient who is currently of no fixed abode or at immediate threat of eviction, and without social care needs.

Main duties of the job
To provide general counselling and advocacy. Listening skills are essential, alongside the need for awareness and sensitivity to disability, impairment, including 'learning disability' within the service user group. To be empathetic and understanding of the needs of service users with complex needs and to promote/maintain relationships to ensure success outcomes. Previous work, either directly or indirectly with service users with mental health and a range of problems is therefore essential.
Network and inter-agency joint working and gaining co-operation with colleagues from multiple agencies. To support service users to engage with their agreed care plan by working towards agreed goals.
Positively promote independent living of service users. Develop a rapport with service users with appropriate and transparent boundaries.
To provide regular and practical support to services users and their carers in developing and managing dignity and independence.
Actively promote the rights and responsibilities of service users, their empowerment and wellbeing.
Maintain personal safety as part of compliance with the lone working policy.
To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.

As a member of the Crisis Home Treatment Team, you will adopt the philosophy of the service and provide flexible, responsive, proactive and interactive support to individuals.
The team will provide a proven, research based, alternative to hospital admission, and where admission is required will act as gatekeeper to the admission, facilitate early discharge and 72 hour reviews. The post holder will be able to sustain a respectful, consistent and reliable therapeutic relationship with service users that enhance their ability to build social networks and work in partnership with Housing Association, Mental Health Teams, Support Networks, Primary Health Care Teams and other Statutory, Voluntary and Independent agencies, ensuring social inclusion for service users.
For this role, previous experience within the field of housing and/or support is preferable.
The post holder will have excellent communication skills that complement their strong desire to make a positive difference to someone's life, with a flexible approach to work, as well as being able to deal calmly with people who present challenging behaviour.
You will be able to work on your own initiative and additionally working well as part of a team is essential. You will have an understanding of homelessness, believe that people can be successful and will be supportive and caring whilst maintaining a highly professional attitude.
