Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join Tansley Ward as part of the existing Leadership team.

We are a forward thinking acute ward delivering high quality inpatient care for males of working age with a functional mental illness. We have a full MDT wrapped around the patient including Ward Based OTs, Psychology, Pharmacists, Recreation Workers, Physiotherapists, Dieticians and access to other professions allied to health. We have a strong emphasis on person centred care and the sensory needs of our patients, especially given the increase in the number of patients with ASD and mental illness.

As a leadership team we are supported by Unit Matron and Clinical Leads under the direction of the Head of Nursing. We have regular Practice Development Groups, training opportunities and supervision. We are open to new ideas and embrace Quality Improvement at a team level.

We are in the process of preparing the team and our patients to move over to a purpose built unit on the same site in less than 12 months time, enabling us to deliver a person centred model of care in a state of the art environment. It will provide single, en-suite rooms, ward specific outside space, a progressive OT service working with the sensory needs of patients alongside a full MDT approach.

We are looking for an experienced RN to support high quality clinical care and be part of the preparations and planning for the move to a new environment.

Main duties of the job

Provide a professional role model for the delivery of high quality care.

Promote service user and carer involvement, autonomy and choice and ensure that this is embedded into the philosophy of clinical area.

Ensure service users have an appropriate evidence based risk assessment and are fully involved in a care plan to support the needs identified.

Ensure that legislative requirements are maintained (MHA Code of Practice etc) and ensure that where necessary the Child/Adult protection procedures are followed.

Have a high clinical profile that includes the provision of hands on care, having a global overview of care packages and clinical activities.

Ensure that all providers of care throughout the health community are involved in planning, delivery and evaluation of care where indicated.

Ensure that there is an effective system in place for the coordination of care (i.e. Named Nurse system) and support the development of the Nursing Service. Ensure care is delivered in a person centred manner.

Ensure that the the Trust policy for clinical supervision is implemented which includes maintaining your own clinical and managerial supervision. Ensure that the staff you are responsible for attend relevant statutory training as identified by the Trust.

Ensure personal professional development, promote good practice, prevent poor practice intervening in unacceptable practice.

Participate in the bleep holding system.
