Job summary

An exciting new developmental role has been created within Adult Acute Inpatient at the Radbourne Unit. The post holder will be appointed at Band 5 and will participate in a structured developmental programme with regular reviews to fulfil learning to progress to Band 6.

The post holder will support the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist in their development of clinical service mechanisms and may include assuming the full range of responsibilities and accountabilities in their absence. The post holder will present a professional image of Occupational Therapy to promote a positive image for the Trust to service users, carers, and the community.

Within the role, the individual will need to have the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and deliver a clear Occupational Therapy service on the ward for patientswho are acutely unwell. This will also require them to work a flexible shift pattern over a seven-day period, ensuring service user needs are met.

Due to the challenges of working in an acute inpatient environment, there may be periods during your working week whereby you will be supporting shared tasks alongside nursing colleagues and contribute towards the overall running of the service.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will provide a professional role model for the delivery of high-quality occupational therapy, working as a member of the multi-disciplinary team alongside other occupational therapists and assistants.
  • Have a clinical profile that includes the provision of individual treatment, as well as having a global overview of interventions and clinical activities within the team.
  • Conduct rigorous occupational and environmental analyses ensuring that appropriate evidence based clinical risk assessments are undertaken, and that findings are reported to the team and the referring agency.
  • Provide individual and / or group interventions, assist the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist in reviewing practice and developing interventions in line with current evidence base and national guidance.
  • Develop the ability to proactively manage conflict within a multi-professional team, ensuring the needs of service users are maintained.
  • Support the development and delivery of the clinical governance agenda / plan in consultation with the Ward Manager and Clinical Lead for Occupational Therapist.
  • Develop the ability to facilitate evidence-based standards of treatment that include service users, carers, and team members.
