Job summary

Hello, my name is Dr Ian Watkiss and I am the lead for the Derbyshire Autism Service in the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Our team is still quite new, but already prides itself on the excellent care we provide, supporting our service users that live in the Derbyshire area.

Over the course of the pandemic, we have realised more than ever how important it is to not only look after our service users, but also ourselves and our colleagues. I am personally devoted our team's health and welfare and this has never been more essential than over the past 24 months.

We are offering an exciting opportunity for people to come and be a part of our new ADHD diagnosis service. To date, we have worked with those who are anxious and struggling with the demands being placed on them in their communities, whilst considering their diagnosis .

Our team is dedicated, compassionate and caring to those who are referred to us and we are now in the position to expand the team and recruit a Principal Clinical Psychologist. I would like to invite you to come and join the team, work with us in these new roles and be part of developing the service to even greater heights.

0.60 WTE, substantive post (22.5 hours/week)

Main duties of the job

The role involves the development and delivery of a new service to meet the needs of those with ADHD and Autism within Derbyshire.

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership from a psychological model of care.The role involves the provision of consultation, advice, specialist therapeutic input and research/service evaluation into the service and support other psychologists, trainees and assistants to provide the best service possible.

You will play a key role in the continued development of the service, working closely with managers, community services, multi-agencies, third sector and other key stakeholders, to support individuals who are in crisis or require an intensive community response; ultimately aiming to maintain the adults with autism within their own home setting.

You will work alongside our expert and well established ASD assessment team, the Specialist Autism Team and the Adult Learning Disabilities Service to make sure that client needs are met.

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology as accredited by the BPS /HCPC including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, eligible for chartered status with the BPS, post qualification training in supervision

Desirable

  • Trained and experienced in the completion of autism diagnostic tools, risk assessments and other related psychometrics

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist in an autism service
  • Experience of specialist psychological practice with clients across a broad range of settings including experience of working with clients with autism with a range of complex difficulties
  • Working with multidisciplinary staff teams to support the delivery of therapeutic care and experience of working across team and interagency working
  • Highly specialist assessment and therapeutic skills related to complex, severe and enduring psychological problems experienced by adults with autism and additional complex needs including communication difficulties, sensory difficulties, comorbid mental health and complex/challenging behaviour
  • Experience with neurological developmental assessments, including those for ADHD
