Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Older Adult Community Mental Health Team (OA CMHT) in Erewash.

The team is based at the Ilkeston Resource Centre, where there is also space for outpatient clinics to take place.

The OA CMHT is multi-disciplinary in nature and is made up of Nurses, OTs, Nursing Assistants and Psychology. There is also a full-time NMP working with the team.

This post offers a varied job working closely with the multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

  • Participation in the sector Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) meeting to allocate new referrals.
  • Provision of medical/psychiatric support to the sector CMHT both in the community and during team review sessions.
  • The assessment and management of older adult patients with functional and organic psychiatric disorders in outpatient and community settings and the provision of clinical leadership and support to the multidisciplinary staff who provide the majority of community-focused interventions.
  • When necessary, to perform home visits for appropriate patients with members of the CMHT.
  • The Consultant Psychiatrist deals with Mental Health Act referrals for patients within his/her catchment population within hours and is the Responsible Clinician for occasional patients subject to CTOs.
  • While primarily responsible for delivering a quality clinical service, the Consultant Psychiatrist is also expected to be actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services, being involved with the team manager and service managers in helping to steer the development of the service in line with the strategic direction of the organisation.
