Job summary

The Perinatal Community Mental Health Team seeks to recruit a nursery nurse for 3-4 days a week.

You will be based at the Radbourne Unit, Royal Derby Hospital, but since the covid-19 pandemic there will be an expectation to also work from home, attending base on a rota basis.

The service cares for women who are experiencing severe and complex mental health problems in pregnancy and during the postnatal period.

The team prides itself on delivering family focused quality care and has been accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists Care Quality Network for several years.

Main duties of the job

You will work under supervision of the multi-disciplinary team supporting women and their families in the postnatal period and occasionally during pregnancy.

You will be be able to develop the skills needed to support the mother to bond with her baby along with developing any parenting skills identified.

You will work alongside colleagues and other agencies to ensure that knowledge is shared and a consistent approach to care is adopted.

The team has a wealth of experience and expertise in this area and you will be well supported by them.

Clinical and managerial supervision is embedded in the role.

The skill mix consists of consultant psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, community psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, nursery nurses and peer support workers.

Working alongside us are our admin and secretarial staff who ensure the smooth running of the service on a day to day basis.

Local induction will be provided and there is opportunity to access specialist training specific to the role.

You will carry a caseload supporting them alongside other professionals in the Team

You will assist the patient to access local services and groups that can support them at this time eg parent and toddler groups, to increase their confidence.

You will also have the opportunity to support team members with group activities for mothers with their babies, giving them an opportunity to share experiences and adopt coping strategies to deal with challenging situations.

A good understanding of safeguarding children procedures is an essential requirement of the job along with excellent communication skills as you will be working with families sometimes in times of distress.
