Job summary
The Nursing Associate Apprentice level 5 training programme combines both academic and placements as set out by Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements.
As an Apprentice Nursing Associate (mental health), you will be employed by directly within Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation Trust and will work in a wide range of clinical placement setting to gain skills and experience to fulfil the requirements of the NMC programme.
On completion of the programme, you will have achieved competencies to be awarded level 5 Registered Nurse Associate qualification and will then move into permanent Registered Nurse Associate roles within our Making Room for Dignity project areas in the trust.
Main duties of the job
Patient Facing Activities
Support individuals with all aspects of person centred care, wellbeing, recovery and promoting independence,
Accurately record nursing interventions
Ensure the privacy, dignity, and safety of individuals is always maintained
Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate registered care professionals
Contribute to the implementation in meeting the specific physical, emotional, and psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of individuals and carers
Develop understanding of caring for individuals with conditions for example dementia, mental illness, learning disabilities
Demonstrate good understanding of principles of consent and ensure valid consent is obtained prior to undertaking nursing and care procedures
Deliver effective care
Act in ways which support equality and value diversity
Requirements will be set out by the NMC standards in conjunction with the level of learning.
About us
We are looking for Apprentice Trainee Nursing Associate (Mental Health) to join our teams working across Derbyshire, based in our acute mental healthwards and forensic in-patient areas.
The role involves studying at university for Nursing Associate Apprenticeship and includes various placements in the trust. At the end of the programme, you will be working on the new Making Room for Dignity project areas (inpatient areas) as a Registered Nurse Associate.
Making Room for Dignity ProgrammeSignificant national and local investment of more than £150m has been allocated for the development of new facilities across Derbyshire. This will create the development of two new acute mental health units (the Derwent Unit in Chesterfield) and the Carsington Unit in Derby.
A new male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is also being developed at Kingsway Hospital, alongside enhanced care services for female patients. These exciting developments are due to open during 2024 -2025.

This is a developmental role. The trainee will work towards progression into the post of Nursing Associate.
Deliver high quality and compassionate care carrying out delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities under the direction and supervision of experienced healthcare professionals. Eventually working towards the role of a registered nurse.
Work as part of designated clinical and care teams delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual and promoting independence
Participates fully in the university apprenticeship programme. Attend trust training and development.
Working with assessor, supervisor in the workplace and on placements.
Working to achieve standards of competence as set out by the NMC and reflective practice skills
Ensuring competence in professional values, communication and interpersonal skills, nursing practice and decision making leadership.
Management and team Contributing to the elements of the nursing process in the on-going assessment, planning, management, andevaluation of care
