Job summary
Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a Consultant in Community Paediatrics with the additional role of Department lead for Safeguarding.
The post holder will join a friendly and supportive team of nine Consultants, seven Specialty Doctor Grade/Associate Specialist doctors and two trainees in community paediatrics.
The post will cover a locality within Southern Derbyshire County and Derby City areas, currently planned to be in Swadlincote. The post holder will provide a generic local service covering Community paediatric referrals into the area as part of a team of doctors working closely with specialist nursing, paediatric therapy and other medical services as well as providing clinical supervision.
Community child health services are well integrated with both primary and acute secondary care and the local health community.
There is good multi -gency working with Derby City and Derbyshire County Council local authorities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based in the South Derbyshire area, predominantly Swadlincote.
As part of the community paediatric team, they will provide community child health services in clinics (and other venues when appropriate). This work will include the following:
- Seeing children and young people referred for assessment of child development, neurodevelopmental conditions, and physical disability.
- Providing paediatric links with school nurses to local schools, nurseries, and social services' children's establishments within the locality.
- Liaising with other disciplines and agencies on individual case management and the preparation of report.
The post holder will participate in a daytime rota system for assessing children referred by social services under child protection procedures. This will involve assessment of children suspected of sustaining physical abuse as well as supervision of other medical staff.
It also includes rapid response visits to families following an unexpected child death. This will involve night and weekend cover to not more than 1 in 5.
The assessment and examination of children and young people where sexual abuse is suspected is provided by a regional service based in Nottingham (East Midlands Children and Young People Sexual Abuse Service, known as EM CYPSAS). The post holder will be expected to participate in this service which will include out of hours work.
