Job summary
The Derbyshire Maternal Mental Health Service (MMHS) welcomes applications for a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist (1.0 WTE).
Please note, if a high volume of applications is received, this advert may close early so please ensure you submit your application without delay.
It is a rare opportunity to be part of a new psychologically informed service for women who present with mental health needs following loss/trauma during the perinatal period (miscarriage, termination, birth trauma, still birth, neonatal death, tokophobia).
The MMHS, which is part of a national pilot scheme, covers the Royal Derby and Chesterfield Hospitals.
The assistant will work across both sites to support the team.
As a new service, we are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic individual who is confident working independently and who can show initiative.
You will work directly under the clinical supervision of one of the Clinical Psychologists in the team.
The successful candidate must have already obtained a UK university honours degree in psychology graded at 2:1/1, or an equivalent qualification conferring the BPS approved graduate basis for registration.
Main duties of the job
If appointed, you will join a team of passionate and experienced psychologists and specialist midwives to assist in formalising the referral pathways, outcome measures, assessment, and treatment protocols for the service.
The post holder will support the team in providing a trauma informed service, which includes:
- The designing and running of groups.
- Assisting in the provision of trauma informed care teaching and support to various teams linked with the service.
- Supporting the team with initial assessments.
- Undertaking projects relating to service development and evaluation focussing on the outcomes of the team's clinical work.
- Carrying out literature reviews.
- Designing and managing databases, spreadsheets and using advanced IT skills in evaluation/audit
- Liaising and working with 3rd sector organisations to assist the service in its co-production, including running focus group with clients.
- Designing leaflets and posters to assist with service promotion.
About us
The MMHS sits within the Perinatal Mental Health Service and is closely linked with maternity services within the two acute hospital trusts across Derbyshire.
The MMHS will consist of a Consultant Psychologist, 3 Clinical Psychologists, 3 specialist midwives, an assistant psychologist, a peer support worker, a project manager, and an administrator.
There is a strong psychology department within the Trust which facilitates regular specialized supervision (dissociation, EMDR, CFT), leads on the development of trauma informed training and pathways, encourages personal and professional development, and has good links with the regional training courses.
There is a national MMHS assistants' group for peer support.
DHCFT is incredibly supportive of their work force and have gone above and beyond to ensure staff are being looked after and feel supported during the pandemic.
The successful candidate will be greeted by a compassionate team and glorious countryside.
