We are thrilled to announce that we have an exciting new opportunity to join the Adult Neurodevelopmental Team as a Band 7 Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist to work across Hillside (Learning Disability Assessment and Treatment Unit) and Forensic Support Team.

We are looking for individuals who share our strong, value-based approach and have a highly specialist understanding of the support needs of people with a Learning Disability and/or Autism.

The individuals will have strong communication skills and be a valued member of a team who aim to support service users.

Based at Ash Green Specialist Learning Disability Service, this post will cover two main areas:

0.8 WTE working with individuals with a diagnosis of Learning Disability and/or Autism on Hillside ward to be an advocate of change to support meaningful occupation and engagement.

0.2 WTE working into the Forensic Support Team supporting people coming out of secure hospital care into the community as part of transforming care agenda.

A part of this job is to undertake a social supervisor role.

Main duties of the job

To provide a highly specialist clinical service to adults with learning disabilities and/or Autism in both the LD Assessment and Treatment Unit and community settings.

Individuals may also have complex communication and highly specialist needs, challenging behaviours and multiple pathologies.

They may also have forensic needs (behaviour that has or has the potential to bring the individual into contact with the criminal justice system).

Carry out comprehensive OT assessments of clients using a range of observational and formal tools in order to provide appropriate and effective intervention:

  • To inform others and facilitate a holistic approach
  • To evaluate and measure outcomes
  • To provide person centred goal directed interventions (through one to one, group, and Consultancy Model)
  • To work in collaboration with the team around a client including family, carers and colleagues from a range of professions and agencies; health, education, social services and voluntary sector
  • To contribute to the development of the services provided by the OT Team
  • To enable others, including Occupational Therapy Assistants, through formal and informal training and support to meet the occupational needs of service users.

Please note that an important element to this role is to provide social supervision to individuals who have "conditionally discharged" from hospital under Section 37/41 of the Mental Health Act.

The post holder will be offered training around the role of social supervisor.
