Job summary

We are looking for a qualified Social Worker to join the Derbyshire Perinatal Community Mental Health Team.

The peri-natal mental health service cares for women who are suffering with severe and complex mental health problems, from the end of the first trimester in pregnancy up until the baby is two years old.

We work with women and their families from Derby City and North and South Derbyshire.

We have two team bases, the South base is on the Royal Derby Hospital site and the North base is located at Scarsdale in Chesterfield

This is a full time post working across both sites but we would be happy to consider a job share.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work as a member of our multi-disciplinary community mental health team, which is made up of nurses, nursery nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists and occupational therapists.

You will have a caseload of patients who are presenting with complex social care needs impacted by perinatal mental illness.

You will also be able to use your social work skills and knowledge to support and supervise colleagues in the team with cases that have safeguarding concerns.

You will be able to work collaboratively and develop excellent working relationships across primary care, social care and children's social care agencies.

You will be expected to triage referrals into the service on a rota basis and complete holistic assessments, including assessment of risk, with women who are presenting with complex social care needs impacted by perinatal mental health problems.

We also have a dedicated advice line which you will be able to participate in offering advice to professionals who are considering referring into the service.

About us

We are a well-established team, with a wealth of experience in this area and pride ourselves on delivering quality care to our patients and their families.

Our service has been accredited for many years by the Royal College of Psychiatrists Care Quality Network for Perinatal Mental Health, as we have met and adhere to the required standards for delivering peri-natal care in the community, ensuring best practise is adhered to.

Local induction, along with the Trust corporate induction, will be providedand there are opportunities available to access specialist role specific training to support the development of your knowledge and skills in this area.

Induction will also include shadowing experienced members of the team and regular clinical, managerial and team supervision.

As a result of Covid we have a developed a hybrid way of working, which includes working from home and working from the office on a rota basis.

This is subject to change as we move out of the pandemic.

We have also invested in technology and we are one of the leading services in our organisation providing video consultations. However, we are now in a position to safely increase our face-to-face contacts, whilst recognising the need to offer patients choice as to how they wish to engage with the service.
