Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 6 month post working as an Assistant Psychologist in an established and developing community team for adults with learning disabilities. The post involves working with a wide range of experienced clinical and forensic psychologists and is embedded in a multidisciplinary Adult Neurodevelopmental Service and Trustwide Psychology and Specialist Psychotherapy Services.
The successful candidate will primarily support colleagues within the Learning Disability Psychology Team and wider multi-disciplinary teams whilst working directly with service users across the Derby City and South County of Derbyshire. You will also provide input into multi-agency processes when required. The post will be based in the CST, Derby City but the service holds bases across the South of the County also.
The Community Support Teams are multidisciplinary teams which includes: Clinical Psychology led by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Learning Disability Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Physiotherapy. The service is commissioned to work with adults with a learning disability who present with specialist health needs and to provide consultation to colleagues in the local mental health teams in relation to clients who present with autism in the absence of a learning disability. The service continues to evolve to accommodate the changing needs of local populations in accordance with local and national policy and guidance.

The successful candidate must have previous experience of working and/or being with individuals who experience learning disabilities and have clinical experience as an assistant psychologist. The successful candidate will need to be able to work flexibly both directly in clinical settings and through remote contact with clients, carers and colleagues where this is required. They will need to be able to meet the travel requirements of the post and have access to a private and secure space for remote working practices.

The successful candidate will have an active interest in this highly specialist area and will be supported by the learning disability service's team of registered psychologists , all who have a wealth of experience and expertise across these areas. There will be access to CPD opportunities and cross service networking to develop and enhance clinical experience, expertise and understandings. There are also opportunities to receive specialist supervision and training within the teams.
In addition to the psychologists working within the learning disability service, there is a strong psychology and psychological therapies department within the Trust where access to specialty meetings and trustwide specialist supervision and CPD opportunities are available. The trust also encourages the participation in personal and professional development and has good links and successful progression of assistant psychologists into the regional university training courses.
