Job summary
To work as part of the General Anaesthesia team providing services to inpatient and day case theatres and obstetrics.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work as part of the general anaesthetic team in general theatres, maternity, ICU and in X-ray or at other sites as appropriate administering anaesthesia to routine and emergency cases. The anaesthetic team consists of 19 general consultant anaesthetists, 11 ICU anaesthetists, 3Trust Grade anaesthetists and 14-18 trainee anaesthetists.
The post-holder will work as either a solo anaesthetist or with a consultant on operating lists or in maternity or ICU. They will cover on call shifts as needed on a 1 in 8 basis in ICU, Maternity, Emergency Theatre or Cardiac ICU.
The general anaesthetic service provides services for adult and child patients attending for general surgery, colorectal surgery, orthopaedic, trauma, ENT, gynaecology, urology, ophthalmic surgery and gastroenterology and X-ray procedures. The department provides 24 hour cover for maternity services including an epidural service and ICU. The trust has a separate department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia.
