Job responsibilities

Responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist continence care programmes in community and clinic settings for children and young people, 5-19 years within Blackpool Teaching Hospitals foundation trust

Develop and implement education and training programmes for defined age group, parents/carers, School nurses, Health visitors, Childrens community nurses and Allied Health Professionals

Contribute towards Education Health Care Plans for children in Blackpool Fylde and Wyre

Provide evidence-based practice in line with NICE Guidance

Advise on service development needs and activity baselines

Inputs IPM for data collection for Commissioning Purposes on a daily basis

Ensure all patient records are completed and maintained in line with Trust Policy, observing patient confidentiality at all times

Undertake home visits as required

Be competent in interpreting the combined results of urinalysis, bowel charts and fluid intake & output charts

Be competent in reaching a diagnosis of patient symptoms and treat according to treatment pathways,

Complete bladder scans and abdominal palpations in accordance with clinical guidelines in fully assessing a childs continence problem and providing the best treatment plan.

• Refer children and young people to other specialists and agencies as appropriate.
• Work autonomously without direct supervision, accountable for own professional actions.
• Refer to the Clinical Lead if any issues require more specialist advice and intervention, thereby maintaining high service standards.
• Deal with patient complaints in a positive and sensitive way in accordance with Trust policy.
• Uphold a professional approach and maintain professional integrity at all times.
• Practice competencies developed, upholding the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Be aware of the Trust Safeguarding/Child Protection policy and requirements

Gather information to provide specialist advice to assist child protection investigations.

Attend multi agency and multi-disciplinary meetings, liaise with both health, education and social care.

Support CYP in transitioning to adult services as per local policy, attending transition meetings and following the ready steady go transition framework.

• Registered Childrens Nurse - Bsc hons child nursing
• Evidence of ongoing up to date training

Desirable

• Community Specialist Practitioner
• Specific qualification/training in Paediatric Continence

experince and knoweldge

Essential

• Experience of working with children and young people with continence problems
• Experience of multi-disciplinary, multi agency working
• Experience in having managed children and their families with child protection issues
• Experience of caseload management in a community setting
• Experience of developing and running community based clinics
• Leadership experience, having supported and trained junior staff
