Job summary

Anticoagulant Dosing and Advisory Service (ADAS)Blackpool Teaching HospitalsAnticoagulation support assistants (MLA). Full time/part time positions available

Hours between 08.30 -16.45 Monday to Friday, Saturdays mornings 8.30am - 12.00 on rotation 1 in 5 , enhanced pay.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Anticoagulant Dosing and Advisory Service (ADAS) , we are seeking responsible and enthusiastic individuals to work as Anticoagulation Support Assistants .alongside our Biomedical scientists . We are a near patient blood testing service utilising point of care measuring devices to provide (warfarin) Anticoagulation dosing advice to patients at community based clinics . You will be part of a multi skilled team of staff, travelling out to GP surgeries and primary care centres to provide blood testing clinic sessions. Experience of working in Health care is advantageous however previous experience is not required as there is a full training program.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of this role entails visiting patients in their own homes across the Fylde coast and attending outreach clinics where you will be required to perform blood capillary collection and venepuncture at other community sites. Other responsibilities will include sample preparation, telephone enquiries, data input and administration duties.Please note this is not apathology laboratory post although you will work from our base at Blackpool Hospital , travelling out in teams and returning to base each day. You will acquire many new skills and each day is different.

Full training will be provided, although experience of working with the public or in a health care environment would be advantageous. You will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the successful candidates will be able to work efficiently and effectively as a lone worker as well as in a team environment.The service has a fleet of hospital vehicles for service delivery( own vehicle is not required) consequently a full driving license is essential and the post holder would be expected to be a confident, experienced driver who is fit and able to carry loads of up to 15kg on a daily basis and of good general health.

  • To undertake domiciliary visits and perform venepuncture or capillary sampling of blood for point of care analysis.
  • To undertake routine tasks in the preparation of equipment including performance of quality control procedures
  • To label and prepare clinical samples according to Department Standard Operation Procedures.
  • To provide accurate data entry and text/data processing using the computer/ database systems.
