The joint Acute and Community SLT Team are a supportive, friendly and social group of therapists, SLT apprentice, assistants and admin staff serving the Fylde Coast population. We strive for continued improvement and innovation to provide a high-quality responsive service. Over recent years we have streamlined our telehealth capabilities and continue to improve our long-established videofluoroscopy service. We are also able to offer pharyngeal electrical stimulation within the inpatient setting. We are supportive of, and committed to, continuing professional development and the training of SLT students.

Due to internal staff changes, the Adult SLT team have a permanent Band 4 Assistant Practitioner role within our community team.Our service users describe our team as "Dedicated, Fantastic, Kind, Friendly, Positive, Amazing" If this sounds like a team you would like to be a part of, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

You will work within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Team to support the SLTs in the assessment and treatment of adults with dysphagia and disorders of communication within a variety of community settings eg. clinic, domiciliary, telehealth, groups.

You will work collaboratively with others and at times with a degree of autonomy within agreed protocols in line with your own level of competency and scope of practice.

In addition, you will:

  • carry out treatment programmes, designed by or in collaboration with the qualified SLTs and implement these either under the direction of SLT or independently in line with your own level of competency and scope of practice.
  • manage a caseload under the direction of the supervising SLT
  • undertake other therapy-related tasks as required eg. making therapy materials, communication books etc.
  • keep up-to-date with the writing of patients' notes and patient administration systems.
  • liaise with SLTs, the multi-disciplinary team and others with regards to patient care.

  • 5 GCSE's including English and Maths OR equivalent NVQ 3 OR equivalent in health care or related subject
  • Foundation degree/NVQ4 in a health-related subject or equivalent

  • Royal College of Speech & Language Therapy assistant membership

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • An understanding of the role of the Speech and Language Therapy
  • An understanding of confidentiality
  • Experience of working within a care environment or with the relevant patient group
  • IT literate - experience of use of Microsoft and outlook
  • Experience of working with the patients following therapy/ nursing programmes

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching others a new skill
