Main duties of the job

Key Job Specifics and Responsibilities

As part of a successful commissioning organisation the Leadership Development Coordinator provides project and programme coordination and management, across leadership development activity, and a range of associated projects.

Supporting the coordination and implementation of effective leadership development across the North West in line with regional and national policies and priorities, contributing to the delivery of key results in line with the business plan.

Through intelligent commissioning, support the Senior Leadership team (SLT) with the development of leadership and system development capability in North West NHS organisations. Supporting SLT members to undertake consultancy to increase understanding of emerging needs at the various levels where leaders are working to transform and integrate services.

Supporting and working closely with SLT to ensure Northwest senior leaders have equitable access to leadership development interventions to support both core skills development and future focused skills, behaviours, and mindsets.

Job responsibilities

Project Management

  • Responsible for organising key project meetings, engagement, and workshop sessions, booking venues, sending invites, taking minutes.
  • Attending and/or facilitating meetings where agreed and present on progress, ensuring that all actions are logged and followed up as required.
  • Manage programme schedules and resource dependencies and conflict between initiatives.
  • Manage the end-to-end procedures relating to all aspects of the project lifecycle.
  • Support the team to ensure the timely capture of lessons learned throughout the project life cycle.
  • Responsible for developing and managing project tracking, control and reporting arrangements ensuring that project/programmes objectives can be achieved.

Service Improvement

  • Responsible for the development of operational processes and improvements to ensure robust coordination and alignment across the team in the delivery of its operational plan.
  • To promote learning, sharing and evaluation of support delivered to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Contribute to strategic planning.
  • Contribute to the development of project and programme management approaches and way of working across the organisation.

Analysis and Judgement

  • Support the SLT with the commissioning of leadership development and board interventions.
  • Responsible for ensuring all stages of the commissioning cycle are delivered in line within agreed timescales and monitored in line with governance guidelines.
  • Responsible for effective and efficient planning, implementation, and management of performance and contracts relating to commissioned providers and key projects.
  • Ensure consistently high levels of professionalism regarding all aspects of account management with commissioning providers.
  • Analysing bookings and evaluation data to review leadership development interventions and presenting summary findings to support business planning.
  • Undertakes evaluation surveys as necessary to review commission leadership development interventions ensuring evaluation is embedded throughout the commissioning cycle to inform future business planning.

  • Use effective negotiating skills to improve understanding e.g when dealing with potential providers to the NWLA.
  • Use analytical skills and judgement to analyse programme and project information to support effective interpretation and decision making.
  • Be an advocate and role model for the NWLA, attending meetings and where necessary formally present to a diverse range of stakeholders, with the ability to adjust approach to different audiences.
  • Ensure communication channels are used appropriately, accurately, and effectively to facilitate the flow of information between the internal team and member organisations.
  • To work closely with other NHS NWLA colleagues and networks.

Financial Management

  • Support budgets/matching the available budget to the appropriate staff resources and projects.
