Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Integrated Therapy Assistant (ITA) to join the Therapy Team working within Cardiac Rehabilitation and on the cardiology wards at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

The post holder will be responsible for ongoing assessment, treatment and discharging planning of patients designated by a qualified physiotherapist as per the protocols and procedures set out on the service.

To work either within a team, assisting a physiotherapist/TI/another assistant or work alone where appropriate.

As a Trust, we recommend that individuals employed in patient facing roles, or those located on a ward or department where patients receive a service are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Main duties of the job

We recommend that all individuals employed in patient facing roles,or those located on a ward or department where patients receive a service should be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

  • Undertake clinical duties within the allocated setting.

  • Maintain a high standard of clinical practice ensuring that other assistants do likewise.

  • Interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate assessment in appropriate conditions.

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, referring to a physiotherapist where appropriate.

Under the supervision of a qualified Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist, and working within established guidelines, the post holder will be expected to:

  • Be responsible for a carrying out a range of clinical interventions as allocated by a Physiotherapist or the Occupational therapist.
  • Provide a flexible, client centred intervention to facilitate discharge into the community setting.
  • To provide a rehabilitation programme, as planned by a qualified Physiotherapist and/or Occupational therapist, in collaboration with the client and significant others.
  • To support and progress the programme of rehabilitation on the wards with the aim of maximising independence and facilitating discharge of patients.
  • Assess for & issue specific equipment to facilitate activities of daily living.
  • To participate in weekend working as required, on a rota basis.
  • Working without direct supervision to undertake a variety of non-clinical tasks to support the therapy service.
  • The post-holder will undertake the assessment of patients including a basic physical assessment.
  • The post-holder will be able to make minor adjustments to the therapy programme in accordance with agreed guidelines, but all major changes will be made in conjunction with qualified staff.
  • At all times the post-holder will have access to qualified staff for support if any deviations from agreed guidelines need to be discussed or are outside required level of competency.
  • To be flexible and able to offer support to other therapy clinical areas as required in line with business continuity plans, escalation policy and major incident policy.
