Job summary

As an Apprentice Clinical Physiologist (Neurophysiology) you will be required to work under close supervision to gain the experience and qualifications required to become an autonomous physiologist within the EEG department. Training will also be provided for specialist neurophysiological investigations such as Nerve Conduction Studies for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Ulnar Nerve Neuropathy.

Main duties of the job

The EEG department is a tertiary provider for the people of Lancashire and Cumbria. The department has a well-established service covering a range of diagnostic tests which include:

  • Routine and prolonged EEG
  • Sleep Deprived EEG
  • Sedated EEG
  • Visual Evoked Potentials
  • Nerve Conduction Studies

The EEG department is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and highly motivated individual to undertake a level 6 apprenticeship in Healthcare Science with a view to qualifying as a Clinical Physiologist in Neurophysiology. We are looking for candidates who will relish the challenge of being part of the team that will be taking our department forward into the future.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Successful candidates will be provided with training to enable them to become an independent physiologist. In the first year this will involve assisting in the set up and recording of routine EEGs with progression to working independently and reporting EEGs as well as performing and reporting Visual Evoked Potentials in year three.

This post will include on the job training along side study at the Manchester metropolitan University.

Successful applicants will be able to start the degree in September 2023.

Candidates will require a minimum of five GCSEs including Maths and English (certificates must be provided) and 120 UCAS Tariff points at A2 (please refer to the person specification for details). We are happy to accept candidates with A-level results pending. The ideal candidate would hold a level 3 qualification, however applications from graduates with science related degrees will be considered.

As part of the apprenticeship, you will be expected to undertake a level 6 apprenticeship in Healthcare Science qualification.

Due to the current Government eligibility criteria for Government funded apprenticeship schemes, we are currently only able to accept applications from candidates who have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years, and who are not already in any form of Government funded education.

If successful after interview, a BKSB assessment must be completed within 2 weeks of receiving the conditional offer to ascertain you are eligible to undertake an apprentice programme.
