At Blackpool Teaching Hospitals we have a hugely exciting opportunity to join the team within our Stroke Services Team as a Head of Department. We are looking for a highly skilled and highly motivated individual to lead change through the successful implementation of a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) for the region of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre and across wider Lancashire.
The team have worked tirelessly to achieve the HASU status and we are currently in the midst of our implementation plans, therefore this role will play a key part in driving and shaping this change moving forward.
We are seeking applicants who want to be part of our commitment to providing high quality, consultant delivered stroke care to support the medical and nursing team and provide a breadth of knowledge, skills, and expertise to the department.
Successful candidates will also have the ability to make a major contribution to the training and development of our junior medical staff, extended role nursing staff and wider professional team. There will be the opportunity for candidates to discuss their contribution to the general medical on-call rota and the stroke thrombolysis (Telestroke) rota.
As a valued member of the team, the Trust will help support you with covering the cost of any relocation to the area, subject to eligibility in line with the Trust's Policies and Procedures.
Main duties of the job
The HOD will work closely with their Clinical Matron and Directorate Manager to ensure delivery of high quality and safe patient care, clinical effectiveness and maintain the activity and performance levels required by the Trust through the Division.
The clinical commitments of this post include responsibility for inpatient care of acute and rehabilitation stroke patients; rapid access TIA patient assessment, outpatient stroke clinics, ambulatory stroke care and on-call for the regional telestroke thrombolysis service .
The job involves rotating every 2 weeks between acute, rehabilitation, TIA Clinics and Ambulatory stroke service / ward referrals between 4 consultants. This gives a good variety of different activity.
