Job summary

To support the Directorate Manager in ensuring data quality in Theatres and ensure corrective action is taken where data quality problems are detected. Work closely with the Directorate Managers (DMs), Assistant Directorate Managers (ADMs), Directorate Support Managers (DSMs) and Head of Departments (HODs) for Anaesthesia and Surgery to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services. To review current Theatre scheduling and maximise Theatre potential with available capacity for all Surgical procedures. Understanding of performance targets for Theatres working closely with the other DMs, ADMs and DSMs for the Directorate to ensure targets are met. To support the DMs/HODs in the management of additional Theatre sessions. Attendance at Directorate Meetings/ Divisional Meetings as and when required.

To become familiar with the Operational requirements of Critical care and support the DM / HOD / ADM in the delivery of the service.

Main duties of the job

  • To issue the daily theatre listings within General and Ophthalmology Theatres.
  • Preparation and participation in weekly Scheduling meetings.
  • Preparation of the Theatres Performance weekly report.
  • Participation in the weekly 6-4-2 rota meetings.
  • Amend theatre templates on ORMIS.
  • Raise purchase orders on Oracle.
  • Complete assignment change forms for Anaesthetics and Critical Care.
  • Monitor surgical high care and critical care beds.
  • Track/approve WLI payments for Anaesthetics and Critical Care
  • Cover in the absence of the Anaesthetic Secretary, plus monitor attendance and complete appraisal
  • Attend both General and Ophthalmology Theatres to ensure the theatre lists have commenced and record reasons for late starts.
  • Record on the day cancellations in General and Ophthalmology Theatres and send a daily report, requesting more details around the reason for the cancellation and could it have been avoided.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Directorate Support Manager for the Theatres Directorate, covering General Theatres, Ophthalmology Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual with experience in the operating theatre setting to work with the senior team and Heads of Departments to maximise Theatre potential to meet current demands.

This work will include ensuring effective theatre utilisation and performance, the development and implementation of robust information management systems within Theatres and the preparation and presentation of reports to the Directorate.

You will be expected to facilitate scheduling and rota meetings and support the directorate in delivering a high quality efficient service.
