Job summary

This is a post for a full time Locum Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive care. The successful candidate will join our current establishment of 13 Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists to provide care for patients admitted to the Lancashire Cardiac Centre.

The post holder will be employed by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and professionally accountable to both Clinical leads for Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care and managerially accountable through Medical Director to the Chief Executive.

The department of Cardiothoracic Surgery provides services for adult patients throughout the NW region. The Lancashire Cardiac Centre was commissioned in July 2006 and is one of our four regional centres for Cardiothoracic surgery. It houses catheter labs, four operating theatres and 20 critical care beds, together with associated ward beds and dedicated educational and research facilities.

As a department we provide anaesthetic cover for minimally invasive mitral valve surgery, major aortic work, routine cardiac and thoracic procedures as well as TAVI, device extraction/implants and electrophysiology work. There are plans to extend our footprint to include a hybrid lab, robotic thoracic surgery and expansion of cardiology and primary PCI service

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC or be on the speciality register, have FRCA or equivalent and have completed an exam in transoesophageal echocardiography.
