Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as the Deputy Head of Therapies within the Clinical Support Services division at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. This role is to provide leadership and support operational management of services within the Therapies portfolio, to include MSK Physiotherapy, Acute Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, Podiatry, Pain Management, Speech and Language Therapy (acute & community), Dietetics (acute & community) and the Post Covid Service.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage designated portfolio of services and ensure that the Head of Therapies is briefed on clinical, professional and operational issues; currently Post Covid Service, Rheumatology OT, Orthotics PT, Urogynaecology PT, Amputees PT
  • Deputise for the Head of Therapies as required within meetings/ programmes of work.
  • Undertake over-arching quality improvement projects & support others to do the same.
  • Contribute to the development of workforce planning within defined professions, including widening access routes.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership to staff for which the post holder has responsibility.
  • Contribute to the improvement and maintenance of good working relationships, and effective joint working, between partner organisations and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that services for which the postholder is responsible are provided within the approved delegated budgetary and financial limits.
  • Celebrate success with the teams and ensure success is promoted and shared through the organisation.
  • Ensure that staff working in the services for which the post holder is responsible are reviewed against agreed objectives, have a Personal Development Plan which is consistent with the aims of the organisation and receive feedback regarding their development.
  • Implement effective risk & incident management and robust governance processes, ensuring sharing of lessons learned.

About us

The Deputy Head of Therapies is a key member of the Therapies Directorate senior leadership team. The successful candidate will work closely alongside the Head of Therapies and there is also a robust peer support network from the therapies Service Managers. There are established working relationships with the Director of Clinical Professions and Chief AHP.

  • Current and relevant Nursing or AHP professional registration
  • Clinical qualification at Degree level or equivalent
  • Post Graduate Management qualification or equivalent (e.g. CMS, DMS NVQ in management or equivalent)
  • Educated to or working towards masters level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Experience

  • 5 years experience within the NHS
  • 2 years current NHS management experience
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of adult health issues.
  • Demonstrate experience in operational and management advice and support to other health professionals.
