Main duties of the job

The post holder will have responsibility for the overall monitoring and management health, safety services for the Company, covering a range of sites, both acute and community based, across a number of locations. The post holder will therefore be a highly skilled professional with significant experience in providing health and safety within an organisation of comparable size and complexity.

Together with overall managerial responsibility for Atlas's health and safety and fire safety functions, the post holder will be a key advisor to a number of strategic level projects and activities and play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of effective health and safety management systems, which are compliant with current standards and legislation.

The company experiences a frequently fast changing, dynamic working environment, which requires the post holder to demonstrate the ability to respond and adapt flexibly to the needs of the service. Therefore, they must have a detailed, practical and theoretical knowledge of health and safety and associated compliance legislation.

The Company, which began trading in March 2017, was established as a wholly owned subsidiary company of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and provides fully managed healthcare facilities services, including medical devices management, capital and estates services and facilities management, to clients across the Fylde Coast and North West region.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will lead the Business Health and Safety function across the Atlas business and be responsible for the Health and Safety risk register, client risk assessments, and lead safety auditing.

  • Working on the interface between Business Health and Safety and Operational functions the manager is accountable for the delivery of efficient, effective, customer focused, health and safety services to meet the Business statutory responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent amendments.
  • Support the Director of Operations in leading the modernisation, process re-engineering and development of the Health and Safety Agenda in line with best practice and to integrate and embed health and safety structure and culture across the organisation.
  • Be the Atlas expert on all Business Health & Safety matters providing, advice, guidance facilitation and practical support to a wide range of staff across the Business.
  • Actively supporting the management of the Estates and Facilities Management with risk management in the service delivery unit.
  • Lead on Asbestos Management, Asbestos Surveys and Sampling in accordance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2021
  • Lead on CDM15 regulations and how this is managed for all new works, including leading/ supporting F10 Notifications to HSE.

Therefore, the post holder will be required to act on their own initiative and must have the confidence and ability to refer issues to the correct and most appropriate agencies when necessary and to escalate to the relevant Atlas Head of Service and /or Director as appropriate.

  • Educated to HNC/ HND level or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent.
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate level of relevant experience and competency.
  • National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Diploma 1 & 2 or equivalent
