Job summary

Main duties of the job
Whilst working under the management and supervision of the Head of Medical Equipment Services, Chief Medical Engineers or Medical Equipment Library Manager the post holder will be required to:
- Collect equipment, from wards / departments, which has been reported for service / repair and ensuring that the equipment has been cleaned and decontaminated by ward / department staff before collection.
- Return equipment, to wards / departments, which has been service / repaired.
- Be responsible for the return of equipment, requiring service / repair, to the suppliers, safely parcelling it and taking it to the main Hospital Stores for dispatch.
- Be responsible for the collection of parcels for the Medical Equipment Department from main Hospital Stores and issuing them to the relevant person.
- Be responsible for maintaining the Medical Engineering spare parts store. This will include ordering of parts, booking parts in to the store when received from the supplier, booking parts out to the engineers and maintaining up-to-date and accurate records for the store using both computer and paper based systems.
- Take scrapped items of equipment from the Medical Equipment Department to the Trust scrap compound, following any Trust scrap / disposal procedures.
- Advise the Medical Engineering Team Leader of any equipment issues which may occur including any non-compliance with agreed operating protocols.

Job responsibilities
The Medical Engineering Department has responsibility for managing and supporting a wide range of medical, therapeutic, and diagnostic devices used throughout the Blackpool, Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, to ensure it operates effectively and safely with a minimum of downtime.
The Medical Equipment Support Worker will contribute to the day-to-day provision of medical device management and maintenance across the Trust.
The post holder will be responsible for the return of medical equipment to suppliers for repair and the upkeep of the Medical Engineering stores.
The post holder will also act as a Support Worker within the Medical Equipment Library Service.
The post holder liaises with clinical and technical staff, which will include working in clinical areas. This often requires a flexible approach to working patterns to ensure work can be undertaken with minimum disruption or delays to patient services.
To support and assist other members of staff in the department as required.
- Collect / return other items as directed by the Medical Engineering Team Leader to assist in the smooth day-to-day running of the department. This may include laundry and post.
- Delivery and collection of medical equipment loan devices from within Medical Equipment Library (MEL) to clinical areas, decontamination and processing of medical devices.
- Report defective or damaged medical devices returned to MEL to Medical Engineering using e-Quip asset management system.
- Use e-Quip system to manage library loans and maintain up to date records as directed by Band 3 Support Worker/Officer or Library Manager.
- Maintain effective communications with Medical Equipment Department and clinical staff
- Participate in regular team meetings with the Head of Medical Equipment Services, Chief Medical Engineer, Medical Engineers, Medical Equipment Library Manager and fellow staff.
- Support and assist other members of staff in the department as required.
- Flexibility towards working unsocial hours to support the service delivery.
- Any other duties appropriate for the band.
