We are looking for a medical engineer who will undertake the repair and maintenance of a wide range of medical equipment, under the care of Atlas' Medical Engineering Services.

You will perform repairs, calibration verification and safety testing on a wide range of medical equipment, appropriate to your experience.

As part of the role, you will commission and undertake performance and safety tests, in addition to installing new equipment and recording inventory data for inclusion on the medical equipment management database/information system.

An essential part of this role will involve measuring, analysing and recording test data and taking corrective action for equipment falling outside the stated performance criteria. You will adhere to Atlas' quality system, consult manufacturers and internally produced documentation to extract information to allow servicing to be undertaken.

Main duties of the job

Perform repairs, calibration verification and safety testing on a wide range of medical equipment including highly complex and highly technical specialist equipment.

Perform planned maintenance on a wide range of medical equipment including highly technical, highly complex equipment.

Commission, undertake performance and safety tests and install new equipment recording inventory data for inclusion on the medical equipment management database/information system

Use a wide range of highly technical, highly complex, medical, electronic and mechanical test, calibration and simulation equipment and tools.

Measure, analyse and record test data and take corrective action for equipment falling outside stated performance criteria.

Consult manufacturers and internally produced documentation to extract information to allow servicing to be undertaken.

Communicate information to patients, clinical staff, customers and external engineers and suppliers.

Support and mentor junior staff in Medical Engineering.

Provide technical support to clinical staff.

Operate to department quality system including document control, stores system and stock control

Record and progress work on Computerised Equipment Management database (eQuip).

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • HNC / HND in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or other appropriate discipline (Applied Physics, Mechatronics, Physiological Measurement) Plus, relevant post graduate training or significant equivalent experience.
  • Full Clean UK Drivers Licence (Business Insurance)

Desirable

  • An Incorporated Member of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IIPEM)
  • Registered Clinical Technologist (RCT) on the Register held by the IPEM

Knowledge & Experience: General

Essential

  • IT/Software package experience Ability to use a computer and Microsoft office packages

Knowledge & Experience: Specialist

Essential

  • Substantial Practical working experience preferably on medical equipment (2 years minimum)
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic principles (2 years minimum) Good knowledge underpinned by theory and practical experience
  • Knowledge of legislation, for medical devices
  • Clinical knowledge and understanding (2 years) A good understanding of clinical parameters and potential risks to patients and staff arising from equipment failure
