Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust

Senior Haematology/Oncology Pharmacist

The closing date is 30 March 2026

Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and motivated pharmacist to join Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust as a Senior Haematology Pharmacist. This is a fantastic opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-centred pharmaceutical care within a full level 2b haematology service.

You will be an integral member of the haematology multidisciplinary team, ensuring the safe, effective, and timely delivery of SACT. Your responsibilities will include expert clinical verification of chemotherapy prescriptions and the final check and release of aseptically prepared products made under Section 10 exemption. You will also optimise treatment pathways, contribute to clinical governance, and lead service development. Pharmacists are fully embedded across the service, including the ward and chemotherapy day unit.

We are looking for someone with drive, enthusiasm and commitment. You will have excellent people skills and the ability to work with and influence colleagues at many levels both internally and externally to the Trust.

We actively support your professional growth, including developing your own research interests and progressing your career.

The role is primarily based at Sandwell Health Campus, where our aseptic processing unit is located, with cross-site working at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital and City Health Campus, as required.

Main duties of the job

  • Review and approve prescriptions, procedures, guidelines, reports and other clinical documents (electronic and paper-based) for accuracy and appropriateness.

  • Provide clinical pharmacy expertise to enhance patient-centred care for cancer patients.

  • Support development and maintenance of procedures and records for chemotherapy, aseptic services and clinical trials.

  • Contribute to training, supervision and development of pharmacy staff in cancer services.

  • Monitor service performance, KPIs, activity, safety and audit data.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of haematology and aseptic standards.

  • Work within multidisciplinary cancer teams, participating in ward rounds and MDT meetings.

  • Communicate complex information with colleagues, patients and carers.

  • Assist in developing clinical guidelines and driving service improvement across cancer services and within the pharmacy chemotherapy service.

  • Support implementation and audit of NICE guidelines.
