Sandwell & West Birmingham Nutrition & Dietetic Services are seeking to recruit an advanced Dietitian to work in the community with babies, children and young people and their adults.

We are seeking an innovative individual who is driven to continue to grow and develop a community dietetics specialist service for our diverse population that is aspiring to be good or outstanding. Candidates will be joining a service at a time of considerable opportunity. You will need to use highly developed interpersonal skills to foster strong relationships with a range of key stakeholders leading in a service that will strongly align with the community MDT.

The successful post holder will demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge and skills in paediatric community dietetics and a proven track record of leading for quality improvement within Dietetic teams.

Our service covers all aspects of nutrition nursing & dietetic care within the Trust; for adults, paediatrics and transition services across inpatient, community and outpatient pathways. Main duties of the job

The successful postholder will lead our paediatric community dietitian team who work across Sandwell and West Birmingham primarily working with children and young people and their adults with a clinical focus on home enteral tube feeding and an overview of the community paediatric outpatient service. The role will have a focus on optimising MDT integration and the successful candidate will be able to work across multiple community locations; in schools, patient homes, healthcare centres and in domiciliary settings. You would be joining our existing community leadership structure working alongside our Clinical Nurse Specialist - Community Nutrition and existing Community Dietitian Team Leader (Adults) and the role will include exposure to a range of services and opportunities.

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department is an integrated and growing team of 40 dietitians and nutrition nurses; based across Sandwell and West Birmingham. We have regular departmental meetings, clinical supervision sessions and education meetings. Continuing professional development is promoted and supported.

The Department trains student dietitians from Coventry, Birmingham City University and Birmingham University College across the full range ofplacements.

  • Degree/Diploma in Dietetics/ Nutrition and Dietetics
  • HCPC Registration
  • Post registration qualification or working towards post registration qualification e.g. masters degree level in paediatrics

Desirable

  • BDA membership
  • Membership of relevant clinical specialist interest group.
  • Leadership Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstration of post registration/ qualification/ experience and documented evidence of continued professional development.
  • Extensive post-graduate clinical experience in general dietetics with both group and individual interventions
  • Responsive to changing service needs and pressures, with a proven ability to implement change (clinically/ managerially)
  • Clinical supervisory skills training and past involvement in student training

Desirable

  • Managerial experience of other dietetic staff/non-registered staff, supporting their development
  • Experience of appraisal and performance managing staff
  • Policy/protocol development/ evaluation
  • Advanced practice based competencies related to artificial tube feeding
  • Facilitation of student training
