Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Medical Engineering Specialist Technicians to join the Medical Engineering Team at Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust.

Applicants who do not currently meet the skills and competences for this Band 6 role are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under annex 21 rules supported by a development plan for 2 years.

The successful candidate must have excellent IT skills including knowledge of medical device integration.

The successful applicant will be responsible for contributing to the transformation of services and to the wider organisational strategies of the Medical Engineering Department that has moved into brand new state of the art facilities located on the 4th Floor of the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for contributing to the transformation of services and contribute to the wider organisational strategies in preparation for our move into the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) which opens in 2024. The Medical Engineering Department has moved into a brand new state of the art facilities located on the 4th Floor of the new Hospital.

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience in maintenance, fault finding and repair of electrical and electronic or mechanical and electromechanical Medical Equipment. This will have been gained in a role without direct supervision
  • Experience in the use of computerised equipment management systems
  • Experience in the use of electronic Test & Measurement equipment.
  • Demonstrate practical experience in the use of machine tools in light engineering applications
  • Experience in set up, configuration and use of IT to support troubleshooting and service of medical equipment.

Desirable

  • Experience gained within a medical environment (Hospital or Equipment Manufacturer)

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc or BEng in electrical/electronic or mechanical engineering or equivalent acceptable engineering based qualification with relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate ongoing training (CPD) to ensure that relevant theoretical knowledge & practice has been continually updated
