Junior Specialist Doctor - Lowers
We are seeking to recruit a number of enthusiastic and hardworking doctors to join our General Medicine Departments as Junior Specialist doctors at City Hospital, Birmingham. These posts will be 12 months fixed term posts in the first instance starting as soon as possible with the possibility of longer term opportunities within the Trust subject to performance and progress. These posts would be aimed at junior grade CT/ST 1-2 level (experience at post qualification level) and whilst not approved training posts we would endeavor to provide training opportunities. The Junior Specialist Doctor - Lower - General Medicine posts will allow you to consolidate your experience in a supportive General Medicine environment, giving you wide ranging clinical exposure and training in a progressive Trust that has won numerous national and local awards. We would be keen to work with successful applicants and help you continue to build your General Medicine Career. We envisage that the JSD post would act as a stepping stone into specialty training and we would look to encourage and fully support successful completion of Medicine exams.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidates must have at considerable experience post qualification, full GMC Registration with a license to practice and up to date ALS certification. Recent acute hospital experience at SHO level, or equivalent (within the last 18 months). Previous General Medicine experience is essential and knowledge of the workings of the NHS is preferable.

Duties of the Post
1. Clerking and initiation of management of newly admitted patients under the supervision of Specialty Trainees and Consultant staff.
2. Prompt assessment of patients referred for admission from Accident and Emergency and general practitioners.
3. Day to day follow-up of patients under the care of the team.
4. Prompt response to medical emergencies as required.
5. Participation on the relevant out of hours rotas
6. Attendance at regular ward rounds and multi-disciplinary case conferences with the Consultant and Specialty Trainees.
